Double Dribble Rule

Updated: Nov 23, 2021

Now that the members of BSS Basketball are now executing game play, let's share one of the basic rules of dribbling in a basketball game for your knowledge.

One website that shares definition of rules defines double dribble as ‘an illegal action in basketball made when a player dribbles the ball with two hands simultaneously or continues to dribble after allowing the ball to come to rest in one or both hands’

Remember boys and girls, there can only be one hand on the ball during your dribble.

You can crossover your dribble from left to right or the other way around but the technique must be made with one hand on the ball at a time. Another way of a double dribble rule can apply if you have gathered the ball with two hands after a dribble, instead of a pass or a shot the player decides to dribble the ball again for the second time. This will cause a turnover called by the referee and the ball will be given to the other team.

So lets practice it, we only want the other team have possession of the ball after we score.
